Green Roofs

About This Level

Green roof of the central utility plant

The new Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital will seek to attain Silver LEED certification.  In addition to environmental sustainability, energy conservation and day-lighting, extensive green roofs will be visible from select hospital vantage points.   The green roofs will fully-utilize the space with a planting palette of low-drought tolerant ornamental grasses in a strong graphic design.  Greening of the 40 acre campus will extend from the green roofs to the ground with the inclusion of a tree farm and extensive sustainable landscaped areas of locally sourced materials; all to improve the air quality in neighboring urban areas while reducing intrusive noise levels.  Patients and visitors will be able to observe and look down upon the green roofs from the patient care tower.
