Green Roofs

About This Level

Green roof of the central utility plant

Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital has attained Silver LEED certification. In addition to environmental sustainability, energy conservation and day-lighting, extensive green roofs are visible from select hospital vantage points. The green roofs fully utilize the space with a planting palette of low-drought tolerant ornamental grasses in a strong graphic design. Greening of the 40-acre campus extends from the green roofs to the ground with the inclusion of a tree farm and extensive sustainable landscaped areas of locally sourced materials; all to improve the air quality in neighboring urban areas while reducing intrusive noise levels. Patients and visitors can observe the green roofs from the patient care tower.
